Japer Fisher of London


JASPER FISHER OF LONDON
 (C.1528 –1579)
Son of John Fisher”.

Jasper was Kings goldsmith (Oct 16th 1552-58). He claimed Kinship with the Fisher family of Great Packington in Warwickshire. Shortly before the execution of the Duke of Somerset, “Edward Seymour” in 1552,  Jasper became royal goldsmith, which was probably due to Sir John Dudley, the Duke of Northumberland. Jasper purchased land in Warwickshire and built a house called “Bishops gate House” (also called Fishers Folly), which was left in his will to his wife on the same day that he died (Feb 28th 1579).  Jasper was buried in St. Botolp’s church on March 6th 1579.  See History of Parliament online Jasper Fisher (1528-79).



GREAT PACKINGTON, WARWICKSHIRE.

King Henry VIII sold the manor of Great Packington, Wark’s tenant John Fisherwho served with King Henry VIII, his son Edward VI, Queen Mary and her half sister, Elizabeth as gentleman, pensioner to them all.  John was steward to the Duke of Northumberland’s son “Ambrose Dudley”, Earl of Warwick. The manor continued down the Fisher line to Lord Guernsey who married the daughter of the Duke of Somerset.  Great Packington remained in the family until 1712.

Thomas Pool was a friend of the Jasper Fisher “mentioned above”. Thomas was one of the executers of Jasper’s will in 1579. Jasper may have been a relative of the Fisher’s of Bishop’s Itchington.
